Where and How To Make Repayments

There are 2 places you can go to make a repayment to your lenders: PayPal or your Kiva Borrower Dashboard.

Repayment Via PayPal

You can make a custom-amount or lump-sum repayment via this link (https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/kivaus).

Click on that link, enter your desired amount, hit send, and make sure you’re signed into PayPal.
* Please ensure to only click “Make Payment on PayPal” once; if you click this more than once, you will make a duplicate repayment.

Repayment Via Your Kiva Borrower Dashboard

You can perform each repayment manually or set up an auto-repayment plan (Kiva’s recommended plan). See the two repayment plans below.

Completing Manuel Payments

  • Step 1: Log into your Borrower Dashboard with your Kiva account

Click here to go to Kiva’s Borrower dashboard or type in http://kiva.org/my/borrower

**this is the same login information you used in your application.

  • Step 2: Go to the “Borrower Dashboard” on the top panel. Then, click "Make Repayment" or "Pay Now"

You will then be directed to PayPal to login

**you will need to put in your PayPal login not your Kiva login

  • Step 3: In the PayPal portal, please ensure to only click “Make Payment on PayPal” once; otherwise, a duplicate repayment will be sent.

Setting-up Automatic Repayments

This is Kiva’s recommended form of repayment. This ensures that you stay on top of your repayments and it is simple to set up!

After selecting the “Borrower Dashboard” tab, click “Automatic Repayments” on the left menu.

Insights from Kiva Borrowers

  • “I mean [repaying my Kiva loan] is the right thing to do, but beyond that, it’s community-funded. It’s not like some financial institutions with other methods. It is important to me to make the payments on time because of the community backing me and supporting me.”

    Previous Borrower

  • “[What motivates me to repay the Kiva loan is] the ease in getting it. I don’t want to jeopardize the opportunity for someone else. I don’t want to let my community down that supported me.”

    Previous Borrower

  • “Kiva allowed me to bridge the gap from being ‘new’ in the eyes of financiers to one that could have proven success and a track record. Now they can trust me with the proven track record of success.”

    Previous Borrower

  • “I felt like [Kiva] believed in me and I don’t know if I would feel that same thing with the banks. It was nice just to be welcomed or accepted by them.”
